Beware Of Darkness!

Van_Gogh_Starry_Night

Van Gogh – The Starry Night

There is no doubt that many of us have witnessed evil in our lifetimes.  Evil is so hideous, in fact, it leaves long-lasting memories, perhaps better called nightmares, with anyone that has experienced its realm.

Like being “broke”, however, in the financial sense, evil really does not exist as an entity.  It is what remains when Truth and Light are removed.  More aptly, evil is a vacuum, it is the unwanted, unattractive filth that remains in the absence of God.

When a person is in financial straits, we say he/she is broke.  In reality, however, being broke is the vacuum that is created when one loses their financial wealth.

“And so it is with darkness.  Darkness is not anything tangible that you can touch, measure or quantify.  What we experience as darkness is merely and simply, the absence of light.  Darkness can assume many different forms in life; it can be violence, it can be hopelessness, it can be fear and despair.  At its foundation, the common denominator that defines darkness and enables it to be experienced, is the absence of God”.

Similarly, light can manifest itself in people in many ways.  Light can be reflected by the words a person speaks, the facial gestures thatTree_Shadow indicate compassion (smile, caring, joy, empathy; yes, even tears), the behaviors that demonstrate and witness the goodness, humility, peace and forgiveness of God.  Notably, the presence of God is evidenced by Love.  Where there is love, there is God.

Light is fueled by noble, positive and caring thoughts, actions and attitude/demeanor.  Each of us creates Positive Energy by choice.  It’s all about “intent”.  It’s how we choose to think, act and importantly, react.  Each of us is responsible for our actions.  Each of us is likewise accountable for those actions.

Without ever really knowing it, we have become conditioned since birth to associate evil with darkness.  Fears of going down into the dark basement; anxiety of walking alone down a dimly or eerily lit block at dusk; frantically searching for a flashlight or candle when the power goes out at home.  Whether these examples truly reflect evil is not the point, the point is that darkness creates fear as darkness equates with evil.

Waterfall_SunshineNow then, how does one go about confronting something that really does not exist?  Easy!  Evil (darkness) is confronted and vanished by Light (positive thoughts and actions, optimism, morally-based behavior, decisions and intent).  Core values steeped in moral and ethical behavior, worked over time into the creation of habits; the anticipation of positive events in life that directly impact each of us; gratitude, humility and faith for the good things when they do occur.  This is the foundation of Light and Truth.  It it the Invitation for God to enter our soul and enrich us as human beings, it is our fate; if we so choose it.

As complex as reality and the human condition have become, when we wade through the murky water of life and relationships, it all boils down to the fundamental concept of Darkness and Light.  How wise is God to have chosen this simple yet effective metaphor to illustrate who He is and what He desires for each of us?

One thing that is paramount in life is that details matter, down to the most minute and up to the most obvious.  To walk in the Light, we must be ever so vigilant to take notice and deliberately choose all our thoughts, words, actions, relationships, behaviors, etc., so that they align, support and yield the results we intend, for ourselves and for those we influence.

There is indeed a real sense of responsibility, accountability and impact each of us must accept as Christians.  Being a Christian is not analogous to a light switch, where we consciously turn it on and off.  Like life itself, breathing and our heart beat; it must be continuous for it to work as intended.

In the future, make sure to remember that every little thought, decision, action, intention and influence we create is like that small ripple in the water that is created when a stone is tossed into a lake; from the point of entry, a small wave begins and travels outward forever, impacting everything in its path.  Let’s make each of those interactions we create with others, positive and well-intended.

With absolute certainty, those actions, like the boomerang, inevitably return to us in due time.  Remember, All Things Must Pass.  Be well.

The Demons of Denial and Despair

Darkness“Hello Darkness, my old friend.  I’ve come to talk with you again.  Because a vision softly creeping, Left its seeds while I was sleeping.  And the vision, that was planted in my brain, Still remains, within the Sound of Silence.”

Arguably, Denial and Despair are the epitome of darkness.  When light evades our thoughts and appears light-years away, denial and despair swoop in to conquer our souls, control our minds and forever shroud our lives in the absence of light; for that is precisely what darkness is defined as, the absence of light.

However, as physics dictates in our physical world, for every Action there is an Equal and Opposite Reaction .  This most appropriately applies to Life & Death, Good & Evil, Denial & Acceptance, Despair & Hope.

So, as this hypothesis implies, surely, the mere presence of darkness, all but guarantees the existence of light, if only we open our hearts to its warmth, comfort and enlightenment.  Indeed, Light destroys and metaphorically obliterates Darkness.

Regardless of the circumstance, every situation has multiple outcomes as a result of the decisions we consciously and deliberately make as human beings; every second of every minute of every hour, day, week, month and year of our lives.

DespairDenial is the unwillingness to accept the Truth, whether it be our present situation, condition or foreseeable outlook in life.  Likewise, Despair, the sister of Denial, saps the heart of self-assurance, comfort and hope.  Together, they present a formidable “force”, if you will, that can be difficult to overcome, in the perfect storm.  The perfect storm, that is, the world that WE create.

Faith is the antidote for denial and despair.  Faith in the Light, a solution in a sea of transparency adrift amid seemingly hopeless odds; Faith that our lives are worth saving, or better put, that our sacrifices in this life are worthy of eternal redemption.”

As much as each of us indeed creates our own existence and future, to a degree of arguable scope, we are undeniably influenced by others close to us and those that directed our actions, perhaps thoughts, as young children.  That said, each of us are ultimately responsible (and accountable) for the lives we choose to create, lead and live.

Without question, overcoming denial and despair takes energy, strength and courage.  All three characteristics, however, represent admirable and equally achievable outcomes for everyone.  All it takes is spiritual and mental resolve, directing our free will to populate our minds and hearts with positive, healthy and self-fulfilling thoughts.

Bottom line, our lives are mere reflections of our thoughts, tendencies, hopes, fears, behaviors, habits, actions and resilience or will to actualize our spirit and nature.  The cup will forever and eternally be both, half empty and half full.  It’s simply a matter of to which we afford more energy.Wolves

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life
“A fight is going on inside me, he said to the boy. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.  This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, Which wolf will win?
The old Cherokee simply replied, The one you feed.”

Brilliant_SunriseTake the time, to examine your thoughts on a regular and frequent basis.  Contemplate your values, apply them to facing dilemmas and solving problems; live a principled life.  If you do that, you will live a life of no regrets and more Ying_Yang_2importantly, better prepare your path and enhance the value of your journey toward the sun, the healing Light of the world, into your unique eternity.  Be well.

The Greatest Gift

Life is truly like winning the lottery.  So, why then, aren’t more people Happy?

The answer lies in a complex word called “Perspective”.  Each of us enjoys life to the degree we perceive it to be.

“It’s about the Attitude we carry, the Optimism in our Heart and the Outlook in our vision.”

We are indeed, as Happy as we empower ourselves to be.  Collectively, Life reflects our Soul.

Think well, Act well, Visualize well, Live well, Be well.

Is today the day before Saturday or the day after Thursday?

Yes, I’m talking about the “P” word.  You know, the one that goes hand in hand with attitude.  You guessed it!  I’m referring to Perspective.

How we look at the world is as unique as we are from each other.  How we interpret what we see, hear, feel touch and taste every moment in our lives is different than another person placed in an identical situation.  The reason is that our pasts our different and we subsequently have conditioned our brains to think differently.  This reality is both a blessing and a curse; obviously based on how we choose to view it.

Below is what I call a great mind-expander in that it provokes thought.  It is entitled “The Pink Bat”.  Please watch it and then internalize it to see how you can personally grow as a result.

Now, how do you answer the question in the Headline above?  Is today Friday or the day after Thursday or the day before Saturday?  Be well.

Being Positive means never having to say “Why Me?”

Positive Thinking = A Way of Life

Have you ever consciously noticed or ‘felt’ a very positive impression about someone after having met them?   It’s almost as though they emit an aura of energy that you can sense not only when they are physically present, but also even when you simply are thinking about them.

For me, thinking, acting and being positive has become a way of life.  I constantly search for the ‘good’ in every person, experience and thing.  I have become a much more resilient, content, peaceful and happy individual as a direct result of approaching life with a positive mental attitude.  This includes reacting to everyday occurrences (good or not so good), meeting others, responding to things I encounter (reading a book, listening to a song, watching a movie, observing nature).

The concept of Free Will plays a major part in this approach, i.e., acknowledging that each of us has and makes a choice about everything in our lives.  Every second, every experience, every thought and every action occur as a result of how we choose to ‘Be’.

Hand in hand with positive thinking is gratitude.  Internally, I think of the word ‘gratitude’ as a contraction for gracious attitude.  It’s all about being thankful and showing appreciation for everything in our lives; indeed, for life itself!

Life is much more worthwhile, endearing and a learning experience when you are able to gleen something positive from it.  It is not only more enjoyable and rewarding, but also positively influences others’ impression of you and consequently their attitudes.  Why choose to be sad, unfulfilled, depressed or angry when you can choose to be happy?  All it takes is a bit of energy directed toward a positive path.  I choose to ‘be’ positive and not a victim of circumstances.

Whether consciously or not, we directly create the person, the being and the spirit of who we are, by the choices we make in life, more specifically, the thoughts we have as intelligent human beings.

I’ll share this ‘secret‘ with you here:

Choose to be a positive person and it will e1evate your life.  Be well and consider a ‘Pay It Forward‘ approach to life.  Everyone has the potential to be positive, for it is merely a choice we make.  Got Some Good?
