Sampson – My Forever Friend
Your unselfish love and affection were nothing less than heaven-sent.
Asking nothing more than attention and a constant physical touch,
You worked your way under my skin and forced me to love you THIS MUCH…
I was like putty in your paws, I became a Golden Retriever groupee,
I was a slave to your command, you had me at woof, no longer was I free.
We bonded at sight, our friendship was steadfast and true,
You became my hero, my bud and pal, we were tight, you were my best friend, tried and true blue.
I’d rave to everyone about how you would be loyal to the end,
If I only knew how soon you would leave me; how difficult my heart has been to mend.
You became larger than life, did no wrong, your dedication did not bend,
Your greeting was like medicine, every note and bark would underscore and define the word friend.
Too soon you would leave, so sad was the day,
I lament yet today, yearning for just one more time we could play.
And I still have not found a friend so innocent, so pure and real,
You were my best friend, Sampson, I wonder if my broken heart and spirit will ever heal….
These words and thoughts are a tribute to you and your style,
Every time I read them, they make me weep with sadness, yet cause me to smile.
I live for the memories and emotions you still cause me to feel,
More than words of humans, our bond is as strong as family, and unyielding like pure steel.
The thought of your spirit, your energy and soul…
Have left in my heart, an absence and void, a gaping and inexplicable hole.
Though I cope with your passing and manage to get by,
I look forward to the day, the hour, the moment… when we’ll meet again in the sky.
When we cross that Rainbow Bridge, together, side by side,
And finally realize that pet and owner privilege, that forever-lasting feeling of love and pride.
