You Don’t Get Much Without Giving
In this Ying and Yang world we live in, it’s all about alignment, balance and learning. Yet, without awareness, we learn nothing. Throughout our lives, hopefully, we learn that to have a friend, you must first be one. To seek forgiveness from someone you must equally forgive; especially and including yourself.
We are taught the “Golden Rule“; which is to Do unto Others as you would have them Do unto You. Stephen Covey said it best with regard to relationships; “Seek first to understand, then to be understood”.
Indeed, our worlds are saturated with complementary and sometimes opposing forces. Forces, necessary for change, growth and survival. Forces, equally essential for redemption and personal salvation. And as the word connotes, “force” can at times be personally unpleasant in nature.
When we were children, many of us were guided by our parents and taught that work must come before play. We were taught by both example and personal experience to understand about sacrifice and how suffering can even be considered necessary in life to accomplish great(er) things. In reality, suffering is Christ-like in nature and opens the door to become closer to God; yet it is ultimately our choice whether to walk through that open door.
“My personal advocacy aligns that to truly know yourself you must focus on others and that you must place others first. Respect always precedes love. In observing and paying attention to your reaction and understanding of others behaviors, actions and approaches, you learn about yourself, your values, your tendencies and most importantly, your spirit.”
Best of all, giving generates those internal feelings deep within your being of satisfaction, peace, goodwill and validation. Anyone who has done something for another human being out of the goodness of their heart, can identify with and understands this feeling.
It is an experience that leaves you always wanting and thirsting for more. “For it is in Giving that we Receive” – Francis of Assisi
